I know for sure my summer vacations are filled with new music to listen to. Like many people in my age group, I'm always looking for new music to download and discovering new songs on the daily. I found a lot of new music to listen to to keep me in the summer mood. Here are some of my favorites (in no particular order):
1. Olly Murs - "Right Place, Right Time"
I've heard a couple of his songs on the radio while on my way to school, but I didn't listen to his album until the beginning of my summer in June! He has such catchy songs, perfect for any day. Olly Murs puts me in a good mood just by listening to the opening song, "Army of Two". I even find myself humming or singing to myself and they're his lyrics! If you haven't heard his music, you should check it out, especially if you love a good British Invasion.
2. Bridgit Mendler - "Hello My Name Is..."
Another artist I was familiar with but never got around to listening to their full album was Bridigit Mendler. I know a lot of people expect her to be like any other Disney Channel star turned musical artist, but she has obviously been doing this for a while. Her music is awesome! It's perfect for spring/summer, which is why her single "Hurricane" was my theme song when I was on a trip to L.A. last March. Her lyrics are perfect and my sister and I both find ourselves listening to the entire album without skipping a song.
3. Fifth Harmony
I watched Fifth Harmony get big on "X Factor" last fall and I have to say, they are very talented and do well as a group. Simon Cowell put them together on the show and they have grown a lot since then. I found myself looking at new releases on a free music listening site called Rdio and their new single at the time, "Miss Movin' On", was at the top of the list. I fell in love the song and listened to it at least twice a day after that first listen. I can't wait to see what else 5H will be doing in the future.
4. Cady Groves
Now, Cady isn't new to me, but she just might be new to any of you reading this. You need to listen to her newest single...and everything else she has ever recorded. She came out with a new single, "Forget You", last June. It's a song about love and happiness, which is a refreshing change in subject and an awesome, catchy song! Anyone who likes pop and/or country would love Cady. I primarily love alternative rock and pop, but Cady is an exception because she is an amazing songwriter and person in general. I encourage you to go buy her song and listen to it or go on YouTube and listen to everything you can find. You won't regret it.
5. Cassadee Pope
I have been a fan of Cassadee since I started listening to Hey Monday. "Hold On Tight" was their first and only album at the time and it was on repeat. That was at the end of 2008 and by 2012 Hey Monday had announced they were going separate ways to pursue their different dreams and interests. I was saddened then, but happy to find out that after one of my favorite songwriters and singers, Juliet Simms, was runner up on "The Voice", Cass had auditioned for the following season! She won the competition and released her first single for her solo album, "Wasting All These Tears" at the beginning of June. Another artist to listen to if you like country is Cassadee.
To be honest, I wasn't too sure about how talented E3 was going to be and how successful. Yes, their "X Factor" audition had Demi and the rest of the girls in the room blushing, but they're teenage guys. Of course that's going to happen when three guys come out and sing to a bunch of girls! I wasn't very impressed with them throughout the season either. I think it's probably because of the fact that they only cover songs on the show because I listened to their album more than once. I like their style because it's different from stuff you hear all the time. I personally love their songs "I Love L.A." and "Sunset Blvd." because, well, I love L.A. as well. My opinions have changed about these guys and I'll most likely listen to their music on my next trip to L.A.
7. Megan & Liz
I don't know about you, but I have been watching Megan & Liz videos since 2009 when I first saw their Demi Lovato covers. These girls are going somewhere. They won the first ever iHeartRadio Macy's Rising Star Contest in 2012 and released an EP and a new single plus two other songs to get fans psyched for their U.S. tour. Their music is the kind of pop I enjoy listening to during the summer months. I love how upbeat their songs are and I can't wait to hear their upcoming albums in the future.
8. Ariana Grande
Like many teens my age, I watched the Nickelodeon show "Victorious", which was created by one of my favorite TV show writers/producers/people, Dan Schneider! Seriously, he's a genius. But anyway, Ariana Grande won everyone over with her portayal of Cat Valentine. Around the time I fell in love with the show, I subscribed to the cast on YouTube, followed them on Twitter, etc. So I have been listening to her sing for almost four years. All of her old and new fans have been waiting what feels like forever for her studio album to come out and it finally did not too long ago. Her voice is beautiful, okay. She also put out an amazing album because she worked on it for so long. She had a lot of time to work on it and make it what she wants and who she is. That's something I really like about it.
9. 4 Count
I saw and met 4 Count at my local mall last month at the same time that I met Drew Seeley. They danced and sang and their music was great. I didn't hear about them until I heard they were going to be playing at the Teen Vogue BTSS event, but they have been featured on Teen Nick's music video countdown and are worth checking out. They are also very sweet in person and I suggest their music.
